From 25/06/2013 to 27/06/2013 Prof. Christian Leuz (University of Chicago Booth School of Business) will offer his PhD Course "Empirical Research on Disclosure & Capital Market Regulation".
The course is designed for Ph.D. students in accounting, finance, and economics. Its primary objective is to advance your understanding of how to conduct empirical research. The focus is on the role of corporate disclosure in financial markets and in capital market regulation. However, the topics primarily serve to illustrate key challenges in empirical research, in particular the problems of endogeneity and the identification of causal effects. Throughout the emphasis is learning how to conduct empirical research.
The first day will discuss key issues and empirical strategies. The second day will focus on the identification of the link between disclosure and information asymmetry as well as the identification of accounting standard effects. The third day will cover the rationale for disclosure regulation, studies on securities regulation and studies on the real effects of disclosure regulation (outside finance and accounting).
